Summer holidays

At last summer has arrived and everyone is heading away on their summer holidays. Here are our top Summer driving tips.

  1. Plan the journey, this helps avoid stress.
  2. Check the cars fluid levels, don’t just rely on the last service you had ! check engine oil, washer fluid, engine coolant and don’t forget fuel. Better to fill up if you are traveling on roads you are not familiar with.
  3. Check the tread and pressure of your tyres, an incorrect tyre pressure can cause you to use more fuel and can cause excess wear. A low tread can lead to accidents and leave you open to a hefty fine and points on your licence.
  4. Prepare games if you have children, this will keep them entertained and in turn prevent the dreaded question of “are we there yet” which is enough to drive anyone to distraction.
  5. Put together an emergency kit for long car journeys, it should consist of a warning triangle, blanket , torch, high visibility jacket (legal requirement in some countries) fully charged mobile phone and an in car charger, breakdown cover contact details ( its no good having cover and leaving the details on the kitchen side ) water. the water is great in case you are stranded for a period of time and can be used in emergencies where the coolant needs topping up.
  6. If you are planning a long journey why not check for cheapest fuel prices along the way and save money ! Best spent on fish and chips.
  7. Pack anti sickness remedies, there is nothing worse than having a poorly child or worse still husband as it will make the journey feel 10 times longer.
